Apologia Educational Ministries is pleased to announce that Dr. James Wanliss has joined the Apologia team as a conference speaker and representative. Originally from South Africa, James now resides in South Carolina with his wife, Esther, and their two homeschooled girls.
In addition to undergraduate degrees in applied mathematics and physics and a master’s in geophysics, Dr. Wanliss holds a PhD in plasma physics. He conducted postdoctoral studies in space weather at the Canadian Space Agency, and has been a visiting researcher at the Japanese Space Agency, UCLA, and the University of Washington. He has also done research as a visiting associate professor at Kyung-Hee University in South Korea, the Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory at Nagoya University in Japan, and at Clemson University in South Carolina.
His scientific work has focused mainly on the causes and consequences of space weather, for which Dr. Wanliss is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, notably the prestigious CAREER grant awarded to outstanding scholar-teachers by the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Wanliss has published more than fifty peer-reviewed papers and is the author of the book Resisting the Green Dragon, an in-depth expose of the environmentalist movement. The title Resisting the Green Dragon takes its cue from James 4:7, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The book shows how the Bible powerfully confronts environmental fears and how, in God's wise design, people and nature can thrive together.
Dr. Wanliss has lectured on topics as diverse as space weather, radiation and neurophysics, science pedagogy, global warming, Christian apologetics, and homeschooling. He will represent Apologia as a speaker in the homeschool community.
